de vogels just smell funny

group’.

‘Ignorance is Strength’

To add something extra to my last post that I forgot to mention.
The Chancellor in the film ‘V for Vendetta’ was played by John Hurt,
who was the lead character Winston Smith in the film ‘1984’. It was
ironic seeing him this time as Big Brother..

mi ta stima Jermain

Last week I saw Clement in the middle of the night, after I haven’t seen him for years, with his whole mouth full of gold, long leather coat and all, he looked sharp. It looks life is going well for him, which makes me quite happy. I asked him if he’s still in touch with Jermain, but he said no, man… I didn’t have contact with him for years as well.

Jermain, Clement, Linda and me shared a house at the Aelbrechtskade in 1995 and 1996. All of us went through really bizarre weird things. We saw the dark side of the moon out there. The building where we lived ain’t there no more. It’s good that the government torned it down, cause black magic came into that
house, dude… Scary shit…

After that period Jermain and I got on hold a bit. Finally he left us all, and he’s out there somewhere in the Dutch Antilles. He came back for a while after Mike
died, but not for long, cause he went on the road again, and all of my friends, including me, lost contact with him. All his email accounts doesn’t work and all that. I think he lives like a monk (or solitary person). I know that Jermain is a huge thinker. I remember the late night chats I had with him, including Clement and Mike de Geus, mostly about conspiracy, religion, skateboarding, black and white power, rap, punk, science fiction, philosophy and last but not least the great lie we live in. Ofcourse this is kind of normal when you go from your teens to your early twenties. But it got a bit out of hand, I saw everybody slipping away in paranoia in my opinion. Sometimes you gotta move on, like I did, like follow the path of Obi, which not everybody can understand at that/or all the time. But to save yourself, you save others on the long term, or at least something like that.

But last week after seeing Clement I searched for Jermain (with Robert Rosenau) on the net and we found a book of his hand, which makes me damn proud. It’s gotta be a book of him, it would be a too great coincidence that there are two Jermain Ostianas out there. I feel it’s his force, and I would love to read it. He was always busy with lyrics from the day I met him. I think we were both 13 then, goshhh, time flies… I am so happy that he found the patience to do this book. I know he went through really tough shit. Jermain, if you read this post, send me an email, I know you have been to this blog once. Love to have a talk with you, silhouette. And I hope you wrote this, and I love the tree, man…

To finish my post, I just saw V for Vendetta, a kind of blend from 1984 and Batman: a fascist government, which I really liked and reminded me of the time I shared with Jermain on the Aelbrechtskade which shaped me to an adult. All that information from talks and loads of shit that happened back then made me see behind the wall of Pink Floyd… V for Vendetta is from the creators of The Matrix Trilogy. The Matrix is about what’s real or not, and brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘paranoia’. Which also reminds me to the Aelbrechtskade period and the invoice after. The Matrix contains numerous references to philosophical and religious ideas. Like the character Neo comes from the Greek word meaning ‘new’, and is an anagram of ‘One’. And that’s a nice end of this post, what ever happens between friends who try to grow up, we always stay ‘one’. The Fret Click never dies, and that’s that!

‘Leprikorn Eiland zit duidelijk in de lift’

I guess we already mentioned Johan Kleinjan before on this website. But one
can’t speak of him quite enoug. Johan is a Rotterdam based illustrator slash
artist and a member of the bloodbrother type illustration slash art riot called
Antistrot. Johan is only one of ’em, the others have illustruous nicks such
as (de) Daab$ (AKA Anton Wiersma), Bruno X (pronounced as ‘IKS’) or De
Hoofdaap. Johan I guess came up with a lot of their own specific language
(both words and grammar) of which I can only hope you’ll ever hear some
of it live and wonder for days what it was he was actually telling you or
someone near you. He’s also the one to best resemble a leprichaun on the
picture displayed above here. I hope ‘Leprikorn Eiland’ is a band consisting
of all the characters in the elevator there. But it probably is a private joke
of which we (the simple folk) will never know the ins and outs.

On his personal fotolog Johan kind of offers sneak peaks into his private domain,
which are usually pretty comic and even more often ultra surreal. Be sure to
tune in at least once a week to catch glimpses of invited Kens going mad,
Yvonne’s new outrageous costumes, the antistrot guys hangin’ out bored and
making faces to the camera, drawings in the making and pictures of planned
and unplanned performances…

where William came from!

‘What inspires you?’ A question I don’t know the answer to when asked, but
when not asked I suddenly do know what inspires me. Human beings, their
weird behaviour and their spells. That’s one. The Beatles as a religion, that’s
two. Art and artists, there’s three. Girls and women, four. Love and God, five.
Strong significant forms causing beauty and ugliness make six. Language and
reason, seven. All that cannot be (fantasy, dreams, altered states, etcetera),
eight. Fun (practical jokes, poop and sarcasm) on nine and a definitive ten is:
Transformable Identity of Individuals. (what we make of ourselves and why
we change into someone else or someone new every now and then.)

Aliasses are a funny part of this last named inspiration. For instance, y’all know
Andre Romel Young. Some of you know Dennis Coles (who some think made
this years’ best album yet). If you’re into kissing in a teepee you’re probably
familiar with the vocal stylings of Jonathan Davis. And when you like it better
before you cook it, you want to know more of the work of one Russell Tyrone
Jones. Find out whudat are here.

Well, are you?

Some months ago my friend Meinhard (some people know him by his alias
Gonzales Ballos de Pina) and me did the design for the new Feverdream
album entitled ‘You Are Happen!ng’. Gonzales also was an intern here at the
HuMobisten HQ some time ago. But still it turned out quite alright. Apparently
it just came back from the printers and looks pretty neat. It sounds pretty
neat as well, but you can judge that for yourself as you’re probably being
persuaded to buy that mother at this upcoming releaseparty next friday at
WaterFront. At least Nanette Lindeman, who decided playtime only just began
and started her own fashion label, thinks the artwork looks ace! Well, thanks.

Except for the feverdreamers themselves, the hands will play (feverdream songs),
We Vs. Death will play, the new video will play and there’s a Daniel Baggerman
picture show. Daniel Baggerman’s the guy that has taken pictures of, amongst
many others, feverdream since he was born or so it seems. He’s also the guy
responsible for ALL pictures in the cd booklet.

‘Ok, ok… that’s all pretty nice ’n good, but you gotta give us some more, Rufio!’
Well, say no more. The At Denko’s soundsystem is back in business in a one
time reunion show that same very night! Find out how their vibe has changed
over the years! Will they still play some of the most undanceable crap around?!?
Will it be Zappa Galore, like back in the days or have they conformed to a more
tranquil, commercially responsible way of getting parties started?!?! Find out
next friday at the Feverdream release party, WaterFront Rotterdam.

Sonny & Rico Strike Again

Above, obviously, that’s me. The year is 1984/1985… I’m not sure. Anyway,
since there’s a Ghostbusters poster up there on the wall it must 1984 or after.
I remember that poster came free with a couple of bottles of Coke. There was
a Coca Cola logo on the poster as well (which merely made the poster even
better than it already was.) I remember diggin’ Coca Cola just as much as I
dug that incredibly funny movie, starring the incredibly funny Bill Murray.
In 1984, life just… well… started to get ‘pretty cool’.

What also started in 1984 was Tubbs and Crockett racing around their nifty
wagons, freeing Miami from (usually) hispanic thugs. My birthday buddy
‘De Baron, Heili Proberi, Marcel Alexander Wiebenga I, King of the Bongos’
whose birthday is today (there you go, bud!) reminded me of the fact that
Miles Davis once was a pimp in a MV episode. (can TV get any better!?).
Anyway, I was 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 when I watched Miami Vice. I never
cared much about the plot or how Don and Philip Michael nailed crooks. It
was more about their looks, their weird italian, american gigolo-like outfits,
the overall interior design, the classic soundtrack, the way pastels look in
bright sunlight, the existential beauty of neon in a very dark blue, windy,
palm tree covered city… I guess ‘styling’ is the word I’m looking for here.
It really worked like a charm.

Me and my brother went to see Michael Mann’s recent update, the other day.
It fucking rocks! The styling’s still ace (but we already knew that from ‘Heat’),
Tubbs and Crockett have cell phones now, but for the rest: they drive fast
cars, date fast women, dance some in Havana, fly planes, pop tricks and
talk like no one talks. I haven’t seen ’em use sentences consisting of five
words or over. Now, say what you want, but that’s suave! Big ups for Colin
Farrell, he’s about as B.A.D. as the Don, which must be tough, even for him.
If I even imagine someone giving me a stache and a hairstyle like that and
then told me to act cool, I’d tell ’em to go to hell.

In the picture of me as a youth, there’s a book on the shelf there called ‘Lees
Je Knetter!’. I hadn’t thought of that book since about that time. I must have
thrown it away or sold it at some flee market or so. Also, evidently there on
the bed’s a copy of ‘de reuzenperzik’ (James and the Giant Peach). Life truly
was great, back then: I got to be a kid and at the same time be interested in
grown up stuff, like watching Miami Vice and Sigourney Weaver!

Susan Bijl

We made this Corporate Identity for Susan Bijl during the end of last year and the beginning of this year. It’s very colorful, like her shoppingbags. And it’s her birthday tomorrow, Hooray!

2 x WOW!

and here’s another wow guy. WOW!
