My old fret Roshan has opened a brand new skateboarding shop yesterday. It’s just two doors away from my other 20 years of friendship fret shop WOEI. And besides that Frank Hartman (which is also an old skaterkid) started his business bureau mdm. there a little while ago (a bit before WOEI opened his doors). The Hoogstraat has become a street full with grandpa skaters. That’s pretty funny! Skate or Die, dude!
Check ROSH out on TV!

Gravitation is a property by which all objects attract each other.
From 12 October until 9 November I will present Han Solo at Cokkie Snoei. It is my first solo exhibition since founding the HuMobisten in 2000. This show features work consisting of photographs, objects, installations and a video focusing on ‘falling and letting go’.
‘Han Solo’ is the classic example of the adventurer with the golden heart in the movie Star Wars. In Han’s personality virtues like courage and companionship are combined with vices like cupidity and debauchery.
Opening reception: Sunday 12 October 16:00 - 18:00
The exhibition will be officially opened at 16:30 by Ari Versluis.
Following the opening, the after party will erupt in Café De Unie at 18:00.
Full of surprise acts, the ‘Han Solo’ room guarantees in-your-face Roccalberti, Dandy Dave!, David Vunk and all the way from Paris: Ben et Béné.

Still recovering from last friday… YES became quite a nice exhibition and the opening went truly great. See if you spot yourself on one of the photos Frank Hanswijk took of that opening and after party. If you haven’t seen YES yet… it runs until november 16!
Furthermore, with the help of one intern –who shall go nameless or otherwise will be mentioned way too often– I made the opening credits for Victor Vroegindeweij’s film ‘Gaandeweg’, a film about his father, the poet Rien Vroegindeweij. The film turned out great as did the title sequence, which will soon be available on my YouTube site. This of course will be advertised right here on the good old HuMobisten site.
Meanwhile, we’ll be seeing you guys next Sunday at Gyz’ Han Solo show at Cokkie Snoei.
Peace out, de vogel

I ‘guest curated’ and themed ‘YES’, the upcoming art show at MAMA (Rotterdam). The artworks in YES reflect a mentality which is characterized by an inversed distrust, without being naive. Childish without being silly. Free and liberating. YES explores the breadth of a generation that nourishes itself with humour, naivity, poetry and play. In a hectic, product oriented and media-controlled society, such an agile ability to put things into perspective is essential, a true elixir of life that keeps us alert: Yes! Live! Do!
Opens October 3rd.
Featuring artists: 75B, Daan den Houter, Kimberly Clark, Max Maas, Parra, Rafaël Rozendaal, Helmut Smits, Matthijs Vlot and collaborations: Max Maas & Anna Hilti, Hidde van Schie & Gert-Jan Akerboom. I know it’s mostly guys, but please… it doesn’t mean anything. I like girls.

A while ago Sophie Krier asked Suus and me to come up with a way of portraying ‘temporariness’ in a graphical manner so it could be used as a recognizable identity in ads, posters, flyers, etcetera for Sophie’s new cluster of temporary interventions in the public space about temporariness itself, called ‘long live temporariness’.
Sophie planned four interventions in the lovely town of Nieuw Vennep to celebrate temporariness in order to point out that ‘all that’s temporary’s cool’, things taking too long will lose their pureness and that the beauty of things are often found in their temporary character, like with kisses, fights, a rainy day and icecream.
We came up with disappearing phrases explaining just what’s interesting about temporariness, the point where one isn’t exactly sure whether the temporary character of a thing or an event is to be liked or disliked. This first one’s saying ‘I love flowers, but they tend to die on you so quickly’ [ik hou wel van bloemen, maar ze gaan zo snel dood]. Turned out quite nice, I think.
Anyway, first intervention’s a happy car parade through town followed by an all free temporary drive-in cinema showing two films on cars and driving. Friday night ‘Cars’ is playing and saturday it’s Wim Wenders’ Don’t come knocking. On both occasions Lukasz Skapski’s short film ‘Machines 1 - Drivers’ screens beforehand. Come ’round, have a blast!
