One of the things we find interesting about being in a digital surroundings (this society of ours), is that we can experience it as both digital and analog creatures. As soon as we turn digital, it seems all we care about is the future. ‘What’s going on tomorrow?’, ‘What are you going to do?’, ‘what and when is the new update?’, the rest is ‘memory’, only consulted when explicitly commanded to. When we are experiencing life as analog creatures however (when cycling, making love, walking, talking (although talking can also be a digital activity), joking around, sleeping) past, present and future are all to be experienced like a sort of ‘bowl of endless continuity’ going in all directions simultaneously.

Bij deze wordt u uitgenodigd voor de release van het boek Rotterdam 2040 van Gyz La Rivière op 20 november om 22:00 uur in het Ro Theater. Het eerste exemplaar van het boek zal in ontvangst genomen worden door Jules Deelder.

Rotterdam 2040, een boek waarin Gyz La Rivière filosofeert over de toekomst van Rotterdam.

Gyz La Rivière doet dit aan de hand van de goeie en slechte dingen uit het bijzondere verleden van zijn lievelingsstad. Hij schetst een mogelijke toekomst waar alle Rotterdammers iets aan hebben, jong en oud, arm en rijk, saai of avontuurlijk, geïnteresseerd of verveeld. Een stad die zowel aan status als aan zeggingskracht een hoop heeft te winnen.

In het Rotterdam 2040 boek staan tekstuele bijdragen van:

colo(u)r me badd

From june 19 til’ last july 11th Gyz and me participated on the group show Kleur 01 (colo(u)r 01) at Dek22, a show in which the works were selected (by guest curator Anique Weve of Fam. Ruim) based on their primary colo(u)r(s) or because they had something to do with one of the primary colo(u)rs otherwise. Gyz’ ‘Yellow Pages’ (2009) and my own —or at least Homey Universalis’— ‘vlag voor het strand’ (flag for the beach, 2007) were on display plus I wrote a little text on the difference of colo(u)rs. This text can (still) be read on a wall in the exhibition going on right now, called Kleur 02 (colo(u)r 02), which is about (the) secondary colo(u)rs, starring (amongst many others) Daan den Houter, Marijke Appelman, Alex Jacobs & Ellemieke Schoenmaker.

Wholy Moly! Suus and me entered the Blue Band ‘gezonde vetten’ competition and are nominated to compete with two other entries to win the Folder Challenge Award, an anual advertising award. Pretty exciting, especially since this is the first time we even participated on such a project. Our graphic approach must have worked somehow pretty well in the wild world of adverts. In a funny lil’ film made by GGTV videoproducties you can see us telling about how we got the idea and goof around in the background a little.

Like we mentioned earlier, at the opening of BLURRR –a group show in Tent., featuring Renaissance Gyz– the HuMobisten did a performance called ‘We zijn weer boos!’ (We’re mad again!) about the fact that being angry becomes increasingly harder as we ourselves become more and more understanding. Maybe too much so even. Helped incredibly by Jeroen S. Rozendaal, we came up with the following:
